Soprano, Amy van Walsum, is a recent graduate of
Leeds College of Music. From September she will commence further Postgraduate study at the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budpest, as a Weingarten Scholarship holder. Following which, she will begin her PhD at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Contemporary music is at the forefront of Amy's focus,
performing with the Thallein Ensemble and singing brand new works from composers such as John Joubert, Louis Andriessen, Andrew Toovey and Michael Wolters. Currently she has just released her first solo album with Robin Bowman - 'Out of Town,' is a wonderful and varied selection of modern female composer song cycles and works. She has been awarded the Leeds College of Music Business and Artsistry scheme resulting in the creation of her second album - 'Mad Girl,' release due May 2020.
Amy works regularly as a freelance performer, alongside her Conservatoire commitments, most recently reprising her main role as Electron in Entanglement! An Entropic Tale with Infinite Opera Company. She has appeared in staged operatic productions as Anna in Vosečk's Biedermann and the Arsonists, Sandman & Dew Fairy in Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel and First Boy in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.
Recent accomplishments include 3rd Prize in the Edward Brooks English Song Prize and performing in a masterclass for Anna Meredith and Annette Saunders in association with Opera North.
